Ex Libris is working with the library community to define and promote the widespread incorporation of Linked Data in libraries. The end result will be improved exposure of library data to the web, enriched patron services by connecting libraries to a wealth of information from diverse external sources, and new, more efficient methods of shared cataloging.
Ex Libris has been involved in multiple Linked Data projects, including the Europeana Cultural Portal, the European Digital Library project, the IGeLU-ELUNA LOD SIWG, and now the 2016 Ex Libris Linked Data Collaboration Program.
To further the Linked Data initiative, we composed a short and anonymous survey that will help us understand the priorities and surface the real-life demands and possibilities that are of interest to the library community. Bridging the gap between library systems and the non-library world is an important step towards providing a comprehensive and usable information source to everyone. Unified resource management services and a discovery system that is fueled by Linked Data can build that bridge.
