Primo Central, a new Primo component, gives users access to their library’s collection of remotely-hosted electronic journals, e-books and other scholarly materials with the same speed and ease that they enjoy when they access local, institutional resources.
Primo Central is a centralized, hosted Primo® index of data harvested from primary and secondary publishers and aggregators that enables Primo users to search for items of interest from a wide range of information providers at the same time as they search for items in their local, institutional materials. Primo presents the results in a single merged list, sorted by relevance.
With Primo, libraries can choose to independently harvest licensed resources and add the harvested data to their local Primo index. With Primo Central, Ex Libris relieves libraries of this task. The power of Primo Central, with its millions of scholarly resources, is available to all Primo users.
Using Primo Central, libraries continue to have full control over the way in which they brand their services and offer them to users. Primo Central enables libraries to retain their independence, to remain faithful to the unique mission of their institution, yet at the same time, to benefit from the power of a collective, shared Primo Central repository.
